Car rental on Iceland - IceRental4x4

Hi guys,

I hope you’re all doing good and that you’re all healthy in these crazy times. Today’s topic I want to talk more about car rental on Iceland because its quite an important topic. Its not easy to choose which companies are the right ones. First to say there are is a small number of rental companies which have a small office inside the airport. These are known Sixt, Avis, Europcar and Hertz. They have a high quality standard but you pay double the price then what other companies are taking which is crazy. Then there are so many companies which have a shuttle service to their office and IceRental 4x4 is one of them. I already did two rentals with them and I was really happy with both of them. First one was a Suzuki Jimny with a Roof tent in 2019 and the second one was a Ford Expedition in March 2021. I will tell you especially about my experience from March.

When we arrived at the airport there was someone waiting for us so we had 0 seconds of waiting time. Arrived at the IceRental 4x4 office they checked our drivers licenses and within 5 minutes we got our car and we were ready for our Iceland adventure. During this time we had to stay in quarantine for 5 days but this was no big problem. During our drive into our quarantine cabin we were surprised with the craziest northern lights i’ve ever seen.

After that we stayed the first 5 days in and around our cabin on the snaefellsness peninsula.

After this time we made our second test in Borgarnes and after the clearing we went up to the north of Iceland to Akureyri. But then in the night the Fagradalsfjall volcano near the capital Reykjavik erupted we immediately drove down in the morning to head to the eruption site. With our Ford Expedition we had a comfortable 5 hour drive.We were 3 people with a lot of luggage and that was not big deal for the great SUV.

It was definitely an unreal experience to witness a volcano come to life! If you have the chance to travel to Iceland this year then definitely check out this volcano site!

After that experience we headed east on the same day because the weather forecast was very good. In the evening we saw the amazing Stokksnes Beach with the softest winter sunset light and after that even the northern light appeared. These two days were definitely one of the best ones of my entire life!

After that we explored a few more destinations in the south of Iceland and after that we headed back to the office of IceRental 4x4 where we gave back our amazing Ford Expedition. If I come back this year ill definitely book my next rental car with this company. The only thing you should be cautious is that you book a good insurance with them because better to be prepared if something goes wrong. I hope I can return those year.
